Via email: JP and Mal. Your whiskey might make an appearance. ;)
(That’s Mal Reynolds and Jean Paul Beaubier)
OH MIGHT IT THEN. :D
“So what’s your favorite?” For the amount he’d drunk, Mal felt remarkably steady.
“I don’t have a favorite.”
“I do.” Mal smirked. ”Nide muchin shr ega da wukwei.”
“Which means?”
“Your mother’s a big ole turtle.” Mal sipped from his glass — damned if this wasn’t a fine breed of whiskey — and rattled his ice. ”Which sounds adorable until you realize turtles don’t know their fathers.”
Jean Paul lifted an eyebrow. ”And you like it because?”
“It’s easy to teach to children. Especially the kind of children who get invited to fancy events and throw temper tantrums.” He made a motion like pulling a string. ”Just wind’em up and watch’em go.”
“Yes, that seems like a perfectly reasonable idea. Not likely to backfire at all.” Jean Paul shifted restlessly in his seat, reaching for his own drink. ”How much longer do we have to wait here?”
“‘til the signal.” Mal touched the butt of his weapon as if to remind himself it was there and nodded. ”You gotta have some kind of favorite cursing. It’s a man’s god-given right to insult someone properly.”
“I admit,” Jean Paul said with a sigh, “I’ve muttered a few phrases more often than most. Le cerveau il etait en option chez toi.” He lifted his glass in mock-salute. ”Apparently, your brain is optional.”
“Classy.” Mal nodded meditatively and saluted right back. ”And useful. Could’ve said that a time or six to some of my crew.”
“Including, I suppose, the one who’s supposed to be giving us our signal.” Jean Paul frowned just a little, calculating the time in his head. ”I have mentioned I think this plan is a remarkably bad idea, haven’t I?”
“Yep you have.” Mal stretched out his legs. ”I suppose you notice I brought the whiskey on this one.”
“I take it that’s commentary?”
“A god-given right,” Mal said. ”To do it properly. Sometimes the properly’s just a little subtle-like, that’s all.”
